MONSTERS FROM UNDER THE BED
In conjunction with the 2007 Philadelphia Fringe Festival, AxD Gallery presents
a group exhibition of monstrous artwork for three weeks in September:
Monsters from Under the Bed
features contemporary work by Michael Broderick, Mike Manley,
Kimberlee Traub and Tom Whalen.

For six nights in September, AxD Gallery
will also host the Philadelphia Fringe Festival act
Songs from Under the Bed.
These multi-media performances by The Absinthe Drinkers
A celebration of all monsters - classic, good, evil, blood-thirsty & sex-crazed.

Artist Statement for "Monster..." show promotions:
From a very early age I was fascinated with androgyny. From a Bowie obsession to an attraction to Japanese animation, the effeminate is an aesthetic that compels me.
Growing up in the artistic and gay atmosphere of  New Hope, Bucks County continued to fuel my interest in gender bending and ambiguous sexuality.
Living in that area also made me curious about Paganism, faiths in which the woman is often strong, powerful, and worshiped.
The Gothic subculture also became inspiration for my pen & ink illustrations and I discovered Art Nouveau.
My muses are usually found in clubs filled with pale, whirling, dandy boys in make-up and dark, mysterious, wafting femmes dancing to Gothic music.
My art has been featured in several Gothic and pagan related publications.
Mixing all these elements inspires me to conjure mythical creatures with sexual potency that may be male or female.
